Les Invalides was used to be home and hospital for the the aged and sicked soldiers during the 16th century. They also built a chapel in the complex. The chapel's dome was patterned from the dome of St. Peters Basilica in Rome.
On early twentieth century, it was converted into a Musée de l'Armée, the military museum of the Army of France, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, and the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine.
The place also is used a burial site for this French war hero - Napoleon Bonaparte where his tomb is made of red quartzite and resting on a green granite base, was finished in 1861.
