Innsbruck is known as the capital of the Alps and its holiday villages. This city is situated western Austria, the city capital of Tirol.Innsbruck means "the bridge over the Inn" which comes from the German word "Brücke" meaning "bridge." In 2012, the first Winter Youth Olympics was hosted in this city. Like the other cities that we've visited, Innsbruck has centuries of colorful history. They have stunning landmarks and to name a few: the Golden Roof, the Court Church (bronze statues), the Imperial Palace, Ambras Castle and most of these monuments were built since the 15th century.
Unfortunately, I was not able to see most of these significant landmarks. Hubby wasn't well and to stay in bed so that we can join the dinner and evening activity. I went to explore the city on my own.
As I walked some few blocks from the hotel, I saw a grandiose structure along the road, the Triumphpforte. Check out the related article to know more about this structure.
Along the street, saw some shopping outlets, restaurants, flower shops and old yet beautiful houses. On my way, I was mesmerized by the church's tower and hoping I could get in. The main door was closed and could not even find a side door that leads to the church. So, I decided to walk further and seen more beautiful views.
On my way back, saw two ladies opening the church's door. Oh, it was not locked so I immediately crossed the pedestrian lane and headed to church. No wonder I was mesmerized! Know more about this church in the next article.
My exploration ended in a grocery store to buy food and soup for my sick hubby.
