Triumphpforte

Travel Date:

Saturday, 24th May 2014

Triumphpforte is one of the significant landmarks in Innsbruck. It is a Triumphal Arch constructed during the 17th century. This arch's construction was envisioned by Empress Maria Theresa to pay tribute the union of her son Leopold, the Duke of Tuscany (later known as Emperor Leopold II) and Princess Maria Ludovica from Spain.

While marriage celebration was on going, Empress Maria Theresa's husband Kaiser Franz I died. The joyous event suddenly went into a grief. Because of this the  Triumphpforte's design shows different emotions. Northern exterior is dedicated to the mourning of the late Kaiser Franz I and on the opposite side dedicates to the union of the Duke of Tuscany and Princess Ludovica. The east and west side of this monument has a marble stucture of Kaiser Franz I and Empress Maria Theresa respectively.
