More explorations, Amsterdam at night

After our welcome dinner provided by Insight Vacations at the Silk Road Restaurant in our hotel, we met our friends RJ and Love at Starbucks. They showed us some of the iconic and talked about places in the old district around the city center, like the Basilica of St. Nicholas but it was already closed. One of the old Catholic church in Amsterdam.

We walked further down to the red light district as they called it "Rossebuurt." The street and sidewalks were packed. You can see old and young, couple or group of men, mostly tourists in different races. I think we had the same reasons why we were there. To see it with our own eyes those stuff we just saw on TV. I was referring to those fabulous ladies from different nationalities behind those window parlor wearing just lingerie. Can't believe I was there because last time I only saw it on TV. Looking for proofs? Sorry, we don't want to get fined. Taking pictures are banned and if they caught you taking pictures towards the direction of those women, prepare your 50 euros.

We also learned the different types of coffee shops in the city. If you saw a green and white sticker on their window cafes, these are not the usual cafes where you can have your usual coffee. You can order something with a twist in this place, like MJ on your tea, coffee or on your food or other beverages. Take note these coffee shops are legal to operate as long they follow the rules and restrictions agreed to the city council and the union of these coffee shops. I noticed that there's a particular smell when we passed by around the area and to my surprise, I learned that was the smell of MJ's smoke or weed that may come from those shops. Another symbol we noticed are those rainbow-flagged bars which designate gay bars.

Our friends showed us the Royal Palace. It was built was City Hall during the 17th century, then it became the palace of King Louis Napoleon. Now, it is used as the Dutch Royal House for official functions like state visits and other receptions. The lovely couple introduced us to a local bar called Cafe de Hartjes. It was a chance for our gentlemen to catch up, for us ladies to chit chat and get to know more. We're also there to taste their beers and "pulutan".

It really was wonderful night. I felt good when we walked along the old brick roads of Amsterdam. I like walking on those bricks as if I was in an old movie. :) Based on what I've observed, seen and experienced, I didn't notice any drug addicts or prostitutes on the streets outside the red light district. Is it ironic?
