Stroopwafel

A popular delicacy in Netherlands made from a thin layer of firm dough that is glued together using a caramel-like syrup filling. This sweet dessert is also called syrup waffle in English.

The waffle's dough ingredients are flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. Then this dough is formed into medium-sized balls and placed on a pre-heated waffle presser to bake. The result should be evenly slim and in round shape. Then the newly baked waffle will be then cut into two thin layers. Next, a warm syrup filling will be spread into the waffle then put them together like a sandwich. The filling is made from syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon.

A warm thank you to our thoughtful friends in Amsterdam for these goodies they provided during our European Spotlights tour.
